White Barn Summer Wedding
From the Bride, Hillary:
What was your inspiration behind your wedding day?
Whimsical, soft and romantic were the three words that guided the inspiration behind our wedding day. We also knew we wanted a venue with wide open spaces where the ceremony could take place outdoors and our guests could admire the natural scenery. With a gazebo and large upper verandah, both overlooking a waterlily pond, the White Barn felt like the perfect gathering place to combine rustic barn elements with delicate decor, florals and greens.

Advice to share with brides planning now?
I’ll pass on advice that my designer/decorator gave to me: spend most of your time, money and energy on the main focal points of the wedding. The ones where you and your guests will spend most of their time and there will be plenty of photos taken in those spaces. For us, this meant the bridal table + backdrop window, the hanging centerpiece over the dance floor and the guest table centerpieces.
If possible, take a sneak peak of your venue when it’s all set up before the arrival of your guests. This was another favorite moment of mine, gushing over the final details of all the TLC put in from you, your parents and vendors!
How did you and your spouse meet?
We met at Stellenbosch University in South Africa during the first week of my study abroad program in 2013. I was smitten by Greg’s accent!
Proposal Details! How did it happen? 🙂
We got engaged on a tiny private island called Sindabezi. In the middle of the Zambezi River. On a boat. At sunset. Amongst the hippos. Just the two of us (plus our river guide). It was one of those moments, that you know – even as you’re living it – will become one of your favorite stories.
What was your favorite memory from your big day?
Walking down the aisle to ‘Bloom’ by The Paper Kites and locking eyes with each other. The best butterfly feeling of all time 🙂
