Southside Pittsburgh Engagement Session
It’s not until you leave Pittsburgh do you realize how blessed we are to live here. We have mountains and valleys, all four seasons, no weird weather issues (hurricanes, fires, you name it) AND we have some of the cutest neighborhoods within the city limits – enter the Southside. I always love to shoot down there because there are so many interesting nooks and crannies just waiting to be used as backdrops for my gorgeous clients. When Krista and Dave chose a Southside Pittsburgh engagement session, I got a little adrenalin rush for certain. Also, they are definitely model status, just saying. Congrats you two lovers, and your dog is precious!
Favorite Memory About Your Engagement:
When people say that their engagement was a complete surprise, I don’t think they meant “run away from the fiancé as he was proposing” kind of surprise. However, looking back on all of the hints David was throwing at me that weekend, I don’t know how I missed them!
All week, my girlfriend kept asking me if I wanted to get my nails done. I wasn’t really interested, so I kept pushing it off. Then my Mom asked. She never gets her nails done, so I should have picked up on that. Then finally, later in the week, David called and offered to pay for a fun girls day with my Mom to get our nails done because, as he often says, “Anything for Linda” (my mom). My only thought through all this was “It’s gorgeous out this weekend, why the hell does everyone want to go get their nails done and waste time in a nail salon?!” Needless to say, I never went to get my nails done.
On the day of the engagement Dave said we were going to have a “date day” and then go out to a nice dinner. As we were getting ready for the day, Dave says to me, “So are you going to take a shower and, like, do your hair?” I am not one to get full on glam for a random weekend, so I said “Um no. It’s 85 degrees outside. My hair is going up.” He just smiles and says, “OK, are you wearing that?”, referring to this green cotton dress I’ve had for about 100 years that I always wear just running around . I said “yup”. Again, he just smiles.
I was getting a little annoyed in how interested he was in regards to what I looked like that day, so I finally asked him, “Do I need to wear makeup today, or what?” Dave replied with, “Krista we are going to a nice dinner after.“ “Fine!” (I was so mad) “I’ll put bronzer on!” My stubborn Italian was coming out!
We went down to the North Shore, had a beer and then went for a walk. As we were walking we ran into his cousin and her husband, who is a photographer. He mentioned how he was working on a project and said “why don’t you guys get in on this shot?” He has us turn around and look at the city…. as I turned around there was Dave, down on one knee…
I was in such shock that i just screamed “no way” and cried and ran away in the opposite direction. I don’t know why that was my first instinct, but it was such an amazing emotion! After the complete shock tears and of course screaming “yes”, we finally went out on our dinner date. At dinner, Dave had another surprise planned-our closest family and friends were there waiting for us to join in the celebration.
Why Did You Choose Your Engagement Location? What Makes It Special to You?
We both really love the City and used to live in the Northside with a lot of good memories along the riverwalk. The night we got engaged, we had two close family members there to take some shots of the moment with the Pointe and city in the background.
