Meet Steven | (aka Dray)
Hey Hey! Thanks for stopping by.
A little about me: My journey to a creative career started with a high school painting class, a hobby I still pursue and enjoy today (more on that below!).
I pretty much always knew I would never love a traditional job. A friend bought me my first camera as a wedding gift (foretelling perhaps?), and I immediately started learning everything I could about photography! One college course later, an obsession was born. When my wife, Jaime, was pregnant with our first child, we took a huge leap of faith and I quit my full-job. I went into business for myself while she was on maternity leave and I’ve never looked back.
Photography is more than a career or vocation, it is what makes me come alive. It is an honor and privilege to capture the moments and memories that matter most to you. Capturing your legacy is what matters most to me!
Candid Wedding Photography, Family and Urban Photography & Senior Portraits
I offer a variety of photography services, including wedding photography, family photography and senior portraits. My style of wedding photography skews more toward candid photos, or documentary style wedding photography. I’ve turned my love of taking journalistic wedding photos into a way for you to forever commemorate your special day!
More About Me
Born and raised in the ‘burgh (Pittsburgh, PA) but I have all been over the world! My mom sent me on volunteer mission trips starting at age 10. At the time, I could not appreciate these experiences, but now I’m so grateful. China, Mongolia, New Zealand, Australia, Punta Cana, Ethiopia, Mexico, Jamaica, Venezuela, France, Spain, Aruba, Belgium, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Italy are all places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit. Seeing a culture from a non-touristy perspective gave travel so much more meaning to me. The more I travel and see new people, places and things, the more I realize the value in expanding my horizons.
I never came across a documentary on the History channel I would not watch. My wife calls the trivia I learn (and share with her) ‘Steve Facts’. When we meet, let me know if you want me to share some with you! This may be why I love documentary wedding photography!
The ‘Why’ To What I Do
I want to inspire joy and capture the legacy of all my clients. I want you to feel like you are back in the exact moment when you look at my photos.
I capture you as you truly are and strongly believe in the importance of quality photography. Photos and memories are often all you have left at the end of your wedding day, senior year or as your family grows and changes over time.
MY VISION is to be a photography company that inspires my clients to relax and enjoy moments that matter most – I will take care of the rest.
MY MISSION is to capture the moments that matter most to you, just as you are, so your legacy is preserved for generations to come.
Marketing Director/My Other Half
Jaime is: my cutie, a Believer, wife, mother (to 3!), daughter, sister (to 7!), and life-long Maxxinista
More about Jaime, my wife of nine years/biggest cheerleader/lover of the marketing and business side of things. You know the movie line ‘You complete me?” All cheesiness aside, this was written about us.
We make the most unconventional of business partners, but somehow it works perfectly. After working in the corporate sector for more than 10 years, Jaime jumped ship to join the family business and helps me in MANY ways! She is a proud Westminster College undergrad alum (go Titans!), and completed her masters degree at Duquesne University.
When she’s not working behind the scenes for Steven Dray Photography doing marketing strategy, financial wizardry or customer service delighting, she is fully devoted to her role as CMO (Chief Mothering Officer) to our three kids, Brooklynne (5), Carter (3) and Preston (18 months). And I can’t forget our pup, Winston the Boxer. Read more about them all below!
Feel free to email Jaime with any questions, concerns or just to say hello!
Our six year old gem! She is passionate about ballet (really any dancing), unicorns and making everyone she meets smile. Her future plans are to become a dentist or vet – all we know is she will DEFINITELY be running a major business someday.
Cars, trucks, trains, construction vehicles, is there really anything else? Our active three-year old boy loves one-on-one time and eating. In that order. Preferably together. He is very inquisitive and kind. Fun fact, Carter’s name was Jaime’s maiden name.
Our bookend boy, this sweet angel is pure perfection. He may or may not be wearing clothes for kids twice his age and LOVES to smile, laugh and run around the house (generally getting into things he shouldn’t).
We adopted our boxer pup when he was nine months old from PA Boxer Rescue. He is endlessly patient as our kids try to ride him like a horse and chase him around the house relentlessly. His favorite activities are napping and eating the many scraps that fall from Carter’s highchair.
In My Spare Time
Worst kept secret, one of my greatest passions is art, specifically oil painting. A high school art teacher challenged me to give it a try and I have not put down my brush since! My favorite style of art is Impressionism.
Another fun fact: I have several tattoos and my entire arm sleeve is dedicated and inspired by my three favorite artists: Van Gough, Monet and Renoir. When we meet, ask me to show you!
I love creating something from nothing and can spend hours getting lost in my own world of colors and brush strokes. Our entire home is my ‘gallery.’ It is a dream of mine to travel to Monet’s home to see the famous gardens and waterlily pond that inspired much of his work.
Painting moves me and is one of the reasons I am so passionate about photography. Accurate colors and joyful movement captured in a photo inspire my art and paintings.
Dray was amazing to work with. From our initial meeting, through engagement pictures, the planning process, and the day of the wedding we felt 100% comfortable and trusting in him. He was there with answers to all of my one million questions and made any stress I had about our photos disappear. Photographers are a huge part of your day and you want someone that you trust and know will do your day justice. The quality of his pictures and creativity are worth every dollar. His personality is exactly what you want to make your day fun, our wedding party is still talking about him and how enjoyable he made taking pictures be. We highly recommend Dray and know that you will not be disappointed!
